Centralia City Tigers Basketball Teams - 1948

These are a very old photos of the Centralia City Schools Tigers Basketball Teams. Look closely and you will see several of our classmates. Unfortunately the photos were not on photo grade paper and were grainy so details could not be seen very well.

There are numerous pages of other photos, including some framed photos.
Look near the bottom of each page for links to all pages.

Seated, front: Clyde Hamilton, Jr., Manager.

Left to right, Front Row:-- Clarence Cunningham, Jerold Dehn, Gerald Harting, Ray Duncan, Gene Malone.

Back Row: R. B. McCall, Athletic Director and Coach, Russell Morgan, J. M. Locke, Al Flagg, Burl Chapman,
Jack Walton and Byron Bruce, Assistant Coach.

The Tigers had a very successful season, after dropping one or two games during the season's play due to inexperience.

Johnston City was the site of the final Southern Illinois Championship Tournament and the boys came through in fine style, winning the top honors. Playing Carmi in the final game, Centralia had many anxious moments. The score was tied several times, although the Tigers never relinquished the lead, and in the final seconds of the game broke a tie to take the decision.

Several of this squad should be good athletes in future years at the high school.
